Then, on the way to pick the kids up from school on Monday afternoon, a minibus decides to pull out in front of me wihtout looking.. within 15 feet on the worst day in history on Edmonton roads. It was SO slippery.. even with wintery tired, I *barely* was able to miss slamming into them. Argh... I know I want *MY* kids riding in a bus driven by a lunatic like that. Not. So after I get the kids, we always drive up to base to get Eric. I was about 200 m from the Depot where I pick up Eric and some car in the oncoming lane slips a little, so I swerve ever so slightly to avoid him hitting me. So yeah.. it was black ice and the boys and I became "one with the ditch". Nobody hurt.. we just kinda slid on in.. but far enough in that there was NO way we were getting out. (Remember, it was -42 C on Monday).
I call Eric on the cell and he was in the middle of filling out an accident report.. someone decided ON A CURVE, to stop and let someone out.. meanwhile there was a parking lot 20 feet away. Being as the roads were horrid and Eric was in a rear wheel drive cargo van... he slipped and tapped the guy who decided to stop in the middle of the road. Thank gosh he wasn't going fast.. but had to wait SO long for MP's to come out and fill out the reports.
Meanwhile... someone drove me and the boys over the Eric's office and Sue, a buyer there, was nice enough to give the kids pop and candy and paper to colour on. I had called Honda roadside assistance, first time ever, and no.. sorry.. they couldn't help us until the morning!!! (We have one vehicle, it's -42 and I have 2 young boys with me?!?!) So the lady asked me if I knew anyone who could pull us out... um, NO!??!!? Then, some of the Warrants and Sargeants and Mcpls from Eric's office showed up and said they had a 4-wheel drive truck and they would attempt to pull it out. (this is already about 40 minutes later, it's black out... still waiting for Eric).
While they are out doing that, Eric comes in followed shortly by the Warrant holding the tow hitch from under our car. They hitched it up, pulled and the hitch came flying out from under the car, minorly damaging the bumper. Eric suggests they attach the line to the axle itself.. and so off they went. After 30 minutes, the car is out and there are some COLD men :) And one thankful Mama.
The rest of the week hasn't been any better... so, if ya'll could say a prayer for my sanity.. that would be WONDERFUL!
On a brighter note, I thought I would share a layout I just did of Coleyman... how can this not make one happy?!
